There's got to be a way
out of this place.
Man down – out at third,
still confused about
what's just occurred.
Crawling, bleeding,
across the field –
Where two armed police
refuse to yield.
Struck out finally,
in extra innings –
The assailant ends
his ceaseless sinning.
What can one do?
What can one say?
There is no joy
in Mudville today.
We all have opinions,
both yours and mine –
But must senseless violence,
become our new pastime?
