"There's Work To Be Done""There's work to be done..."
Last words to his pleading wife
as he dutifully walked out his safe front door –
Into the violently raging storm,
and insurmountable torrential downpour.
To do brave and gallant battle
against the callous angry night –
For the suffering citizens and neighbors,
rendered helpless in their hopeless plight.
He did not falter.
He did not stray.
From the sacred bond –
He took that day.
And in those dark and murky waters,
before the dawning of the morning sun –
He sacrificed his American Spirit
and gave his life for everyone.
Remember him reverently America...
...There's still much work left to be done.
In memory of Sgt. Steve Perez, and in honor of all first responders and volunteers representing the true American Spirit during the Hurricane Harvey disaster in Texas, August 24 - 31, 2017.
