They fell…

Shivering, 
in the bitter cold of Valley Forge –

Hemorrhaging, 
on the deadly fields of Gettysburg –

Gasping, 
in the gas-filled trenches of Europe –

Trembling, 
on the bloody shores of Normandy –

Sweltering, 
in the mosquito-infested jungles of Asia –

Blistering, 
in the endless deserts of the middle east –

Terrified, 
in nightmares and places unknown –

They fell…

Young and hopeful,
courageous and strong,
devoted and loyal –
Committed and dedicated
to something greater than themselves.

Let us miss them,
mourn them,
honor and respect them –
But most of all,
let us remember them –
with Love and Gratitude.
